It was not really a highway but a combination of "T2" lane, a cycle lane and a general traffic lane.
Dominion Road was identified as a key public transport route for the region long time ago. Back in the late 1990's to 2000, the initial/early/ultimate proposal was to build a light rail there, with a station proposed on the Foodtown and the Warehouse sites. A designation (land for future public works) was also placed on these two sites already for this purpose but then the regional council later said they dont have money and the focus is heavy rail but not light rail so the proposal was later shifted to a new 24 hour bus lane.
However, now, the politicans want a "T2" lane (only cars with 2 or more passengers can use it) so it was consulted as such.

LS - have a look at the scheme. It will be still ONE LANE ON EACH SIDE for cars but just extra lane for cycling and bus/T2 lane.作者: 花天堂 时间: 2010-8-25 14:53:03
