GOOD LUCK

1. do some meaningful part-time jobs that will help you get your next job. if you don't see yourself getting anywhere on your existing job then you should take time to rethink about your options.

2. before you get your next job, think about how this job will help you get your subsequent job or your graduate job.

3. no need to mention how important it is to practice your english, especially when you are in business. you are competing with many many kiwis not your fellow chinese classmates.

4. hangout more with your seniors or your friends who are already working. you can gain valuable information from them. some of them may potentially even get you a job!

5. get some decent grades if you want to get a graduate position in the big firms. they value your transcript a lot (although not always)

6. as someone mentioned above, be CONFIDENT. you can be confident if you have done 1-5 right.

the way i see it is this:
many students are tempted to be financially independent and want to be able to support themselves. but hey, the we need to be clear about our objectives, which is to study, then to find relevant (not any) jobs. since past experience is crucial, students better gain it as early as possible, even it means you are not getting paid well, if not at all. having the right experience should be your no.1 priority.

have a think about what qualities will help get your professional job? if there are really no jobs available out there, start with something that will at least help define you and your qualities, and eventually lead you to that professional career. will your future job require sales skills? will it require administrative skills? communication skills? prove to your perspective employers that you have gained those skills from your not-so-relevant part-time jobs - you need to gain something from every job.
