PIN Courses
If you are wishing to lodge your own documentation you require a New Zealand Customs Unique User Identifier (UUI), more commonly known as a Personal Identification Number (PIN). The three courses below include an examination, which counts towards a customs PIN accreditation:
An 80% pass mark is required for the examinations. The courses are aimed to equip people with the competencies to pass the examinations. Whilst not compulsory, it is highly recommended that applicants attend these courses unless they are fully confident of their competency in these areas. The first exam is included in the course price, if there is a need for a re-sit there will be a charge of $100.00+GST. If two exams result in a fail then there will be a need to take the required course again. If you are confident of your ability, it is possible to take the exam only for a fee of $100+GST.
*A prerequisite for the Customs Valuation and Origin Preference Course is the completion of the Customs Broking and Law Course.
In order to gain a PIN, an applicant must have passed the exams for all three courses. However, there are limited situations where Customs may be able to award a PIN without the applicant having completed the examinations. For more specific details of these exceptions, please contact New Zealand Customs directly on freephone: 0800 4 CUSTOMS (0800 428 786).
