新西兰的大银行都是澳洲银行拥有的。比如ASB - CBA, BNZ - NAB, ANZ, Westpac 随便看了两家澳洲最大银行的annual report, 我发现他们最大的股东都是差不多的机构：

i think those are just big funds.... you really dont know who are at the back.

Is there no way of knowing that at all?

If the government wants to tax the big banks more than the small banks, would it want to know who the shareholders are?

If the super investors are the listed funds/firms, they have to disclose what they invest in. but if the investors are private equity funds/firms, they have no obligation to make their investments public.

Many companies registered in some small offshore islands, they can avoid to disclose their financial statements too...

Say HSBC Custody Nominees (Australia) Limited, does anyone know where I can find who's put money into this company?

Also, why doesn't the governement simply break up the big banks to introduce more competition. What are the pros and cons?

Who agrees that banks are not competitive (e.g having some kind of monopoly power) in Australia and New Zealand?
