I have one and half year experience of System Administrator. IS Degree graduated.

How much does every body else earning?

Is it low for me to get 40K + holiday pay on a year contract?

一年半的经验算ok吧,不是很高,而且一般contract应该更高的,不过现在工作不好找,做做看吧~~~

with 1.5 years experience i will put you in the level1 support category, according to the latest Hays 2009 IT salary survey (http://www.hays-hps.co.nz/salary ... on%20Technology.pdf), similar roles in Auckland get a salary range between 37-45k. That's only a guideline and it really comes down to your own background, skill, certification level, as well as your relationship with others in the team.

Let's put it this way, how hard/easy do you think it will be, for your company/team to get rid yourself and offer someone else with the exact same money to do your job? Personally i think there will be hundreds out there wanting your job.

I am sure there are a lot of people who can do my job. My ex-mgr/company refused to pay any development courses for me and due to family issue, I did not have any industrial cert except my degree.

My purpose of asking is to research how much can I ask for pay rise based on my workload.

My company has roughly 45 computers users and just me doing support and development since November.  
New mgr will start next month.

I base in Wellington office but has been providing support to Auckland office and remote users as well.

My job includes 1st level support, 2 Servers maintenance (VMWARE, ESX, SANWORK), Linux server for the order system, maintaining website, developing intranet systems such as gra, crm and project mgmt (using vbscript and javascript plus SQL server), hardware configuration (laptops, pc, aircards and more than 4 industrial printers), sometimes data-entry, random IT-irrelevant office/sales report requests, etc.

In such a small company and limited social network, I am not sure about the job market out there.

What tasks do other System Administrators, who earns 40K, do?

Please share your work experience with me as a system administrator or developers.

40K is a bit low, that rate is normally for level 1 support but it looks like you do way more than that.

Other than basing it on your day to day responsibilities and workloads, you need to take into account the size of the company, the current market etc too. All i am trying to say is, i know people that are working as senior admin in small company that only earn 45k, i also know people that work as helpdesk in a large corporate and earn up to 65k.

Before you push your company too hard for a pay rise, you need to self assess and figure out how important you are to your current employer (i.e. if you leave for another job, how much shit will they be in). If they can train someone up quite easily, if losing you doesn't impact their business much, you don't really have much bargaining power at all.

If i were you, as a lot of others have already pointed out, changing job is probably the better way to go.

Thank you for the information. My new manager offers to up skill my programming skills in the future. But I do feel that I am not that important to the company. So, I will keep looking forward while try to learn more with the company. ;biggrin;;biggrin;

做这么多东西,而且在wlg,我觉得45K还勉强,做到2年以上50K应该没问题,但是还要看你具体细节是做什么,还要看你公司挣多少。如果你不跟经理要,经理会认为你实际上没有那么多工作能力

恩,楼上的说的很对,主要看你公司挣多少,公司挣的不多的话,也没钱给你……
不过楼主可以ASK FOR A PAY RISE 因为你不问,很少有公司会主动给你加薪 GOOD LUCK

you better find a training course (from auldhouse for example) soon while your new manager still remebers the offer. otherwise it will become an empty offer.

i think early 40+k is a bit lower for lz. but it s not too bad. 45k should be around the standard.
