A crash course: Taking your stories and putting them up on the big screen.
This workshop will help you take your first steps towards making a short film, guiding you through each stage - from the initial concept, to writing, to pitching for funding, and finally, the actual task of making your short film!
DATE: 15th & 16th October 2011
TIME: 10am - 4pm (both days)
LOCATION: Manukau School of Visual Arts, 50 Lovegrove Crescent, Otara 2023

If you are interested in the idea of making a short film or pursuing a career in the film industry then this is the workshop for you! Participants will be mentored by experienced industry practitioners who have excelled in filmmaking. Check out the details of the weekend below:
DAY ONE
10am – 10:45am: Intro to Film and TV – Presented by Script to Screen’s Acting Executive Director, Film Producer, and former NZFC Development Executive Matthew Horrocks (Accidents and Pacific Ikon).
11am – 12:30pm: Behind the Camera – An Introduction to Film Directing, Presented by Actor/Writer/Director Te Arepa Kahi (Shortland Street, Mataku, War Party).
12:30pm – 1:30pm: LUNCH BREAK
1:30pm – 3pm: In front of the Camera – Directing Actors for the Screen, Presented by Rene Naufahu (The Market, Shortland Street, No.2).
DAY TWO
10am – 11am: Storytelling 101 - Presented by Writer/Director/Actor Tammy Davis (Ebony Society, Outrageous Fortune).
11am - 12pm: How to Pitch – Introduced by Producer Lyn Collie (There Once Was an Island). Lyn Collie, Matthew Horrocks and Te Arepa Kahi will spend time with each of you individually throughout this process to help you finesse your pitch before presenting it to the class.
12pm – 1pm: LUNCH BREAK
1pm – 2:45pm: Pitching Session – Each participant will pitch their idea to the class and the tutors for some practice and feedback.
3pm – 4pm: Where to from here? - Independent Short Film Producer Alix Whittaker (We Talk About Loss, Andy, Runaways) will talk to you more about the practicalities of getting your short film made.
