Well you have the fox guarding the henhouse so don't expect much. Power corrupts etc. NZ didn't seem to bad before John Key took over, now it seems depressingly bad.

Was that comment made in the back of a Crown limo, travelling at 170km/hr?

Or is it the Police saying "Insufficient evidence to prosecute" when it suits.

Corruption seems to be common in Commercial Property. Or is it fraud? eg. Landlord presents a lease to the tennant, with rent specified as X. And then another document which the mortgagor won't see, and a propective purchaser won't see, with much smaller number on it.
Friend was given a lease to sign at an inflated rate. With the payback being a paper bag of cash. Six figures.
And whats with this 'cashback' on car purchases. Does the company pay the bill, and an individual (often the company owner) gets the cash. Is that corruption, or tax evasion, or both ?

Walked into the Council’s engineering department to discuss stormwater removal arrangements for a new house. All 4 staff in the department are Indians, including the manager. Coincidence? – That’s what I thought too, until after a half an hour discussion with those “engineers” it became clear how useless / incompetent they were.

On the same site, when excavating for the foundation, a lot of rock was found, which increased the foundation building costs by many thousands. The contractor offered 2 options: either bear the cost increase, or call that “friendly Indian guy” that they knew who would sign the certificate for a few hundred bucks.
It is not only TVs that NZ imports; corruption is imported too.
P.S. I am sure the problem is not confined to Indians or any one particular ethnic group…

ive heard through the gravevine that backhanders were commonplace during the consenting process at Akl council. this is in part why costs have gone through the roof, why the council has settled on many leaky building claims, and why they have become so bloated, and slow. I suspect an OI request from interest.co.nz into the affairs would make a very interesting read.
