说真的做幼稚园老师是非常rewarding but very challenging in terms of personal values and belief, knowlege and skills (teaching strategies)...
LZ若你真想做幼稚园老师,那请你确定你真的是speak english fluently and have very good verbal and written communication skills. as a teacher, you teach the future of NZ who learn through social interaction as you know (so I don't want to see that children get so confused and frustrated when they couldn't understand you or know what you mean simply because your bad accent or poor english). I hope you understand and in fact i have seen this kind of situation happened to our children before:(
Also you communicate with children, colleagues and parents all the time. Sometimes you might have to talk to some goverment agencies e.g. ERO, Education of Ministry and so on... so GOOD COMMAND OF ENGLISH IS VITALLY IMPORTANT!!
Beside the Language, of course you need to be patient and have love for teaching and children....
In NZ there are a few popular early childhood education philosophies. such as, play centre, Kindergarten, Kohango Reo, Montessori, Steiner, Emily Reggio, ...and so on, oh, also the "so called" mainstream as well.
The play centre, kindergarten, kohango reo, mainstream education are play based. they are play based, however, its not play play type... teachers need to be very skillful and knowledgeable to provide "play" for children in order to extend their learning or development.
Whereas the Montessori, steiner, emily reggio philosophies are "quite" different from the philosophies which are mentioned above since these philosophies are more "structured" and they are the international philosophies from oversea... Personally i like these philosophies.... (only AUT offers these training, so if you want to do graduate diploma at Auckland U, then too bad, you wont get or experience any essence or beauty of these philosophies. Having said that, like AMI also offers Montessori training, but its a one year diploma which the NZQA wont give you any immigration pionts).
Early Childhood Education is FAR FAR FAR more than changing nappies and feeding babies...
If you want to get an easy job and good pay and also can help you to appy PR, then early childhood education is not your option...sorry.
since early childhood education is always been an occupation in immigration shortage list, A LOT of Asians start doing this study.. (as you know the intentions behind their study), we have a lot of early childhood teachers around, and now it is also not so easy to find a job in early childhood sector... (I must say a lot of local kiwi teachers have gone overseas, and now left a lot of asian teachers in NZ, It seems it a big delima here, the asian teach the kiwi???...)
However, good luck to you... |
