S13 Red top SR20:  1991-1993 model year
* T25G turbo
* 370cc injectors
* no VCT (variable cam timing) or VVT or VV anything else.
When comparing this engine to later model S14 S15 SR20's the following charateristics can be noted:
* NO VCT bump on intake side of the rocker cover
* NO slope on the back of the rocker cover
* LOW mount intake plenum - the intake plenum sits under the intake runners.

S13 Black top SR20:  1994-1998 model year
THE S13 BLACKTOP HAS THE SAME FEATURES AS THE S13 REDTOP
* T25G turbo
* 370cc injectors
* no VCT (variable cam timing) or VVT or VV anything else.
So this engine is almost exactly the same as the S13 Red top SR20

S14 S15 Black top SR20:  1994-2001 model years
The main differences between this motor and the S13 SR20's are:
* Larger T28 turbocharger
* VCT on the inlet cam
* Revised intake design (high mount plenum chamber).
* Different loom and ECU design (not interchangeable with earlier models)
* Different oil filter thread (ryco filter Z445 vs S13 filter which is a Z442).

redtop is from S13/180SX/Bluebird/Pulsar        1989–1994
2 type of blacktop : old Black S13/180SX 1994–1998, new Black S14/S15 1994–2002

now the difference
1.new blacktop from use bearing turboGarrett T28 for s14. Garrett Ball Bearing T28BB turbo for s15.
the turbo from s15 greatly reduce turbo lag and increase power.
2. new blacktop use VVT. (not same as vtec, VVT only adjust cam, not valve)
3. redtop and old black top is high port intake design compare to s14 and s15 lowport design.

once u heading big number HP.
1.vvt dont really matter
2.big number HP high port from redtop flow better. giving more high end.
3.is all about turbo difference.

谢谢楼上的资料,在想问下96年以后的180sx的发动机和同年的S14发动机有什么区别?
而且96年以后的180sx的发动机有几款?也分黑头和红头吗?

if u going to build engine from ground up.

i suggest use redtop is cheap to start. plus u going to forge everything anyway.

high port just flows better.
dyno shows from around the web. u can search it eveywhere.


if u just want keep stock

i suggest u use blacktop from s15. is just better stock with low KM on clock.

据我所知s15有款介于 spec s 与spec r之间的是红顶的,好像就是后期180sx的sr20det, 因为从外面看除了顶子颜色外基本都是一模一样的

LS说的是AUTECH版本的吧 是VVL的 没TURBO 印象中好象是被调教到200HP

180SX用的是T25G,有没有VVT倒没太大差别,不过要是就用T25G,怎么调教也是一般般
