Thank you for your kind offer of help to Christchurch people affected by the earthquake.
We’re receiving a lot of offers of assistance and are working through them. It is becoming clearer each day the type of supplies that are required. We have listed below options of how you can immediately offer help, and what support is essential right now.
The easiest way is to make a donation through one of the existing charities or collection systems. The ones that we are aware off are: www.christchurchearthquakeappeal.govt.nz
Food
Bulk, non perishable food items are still very much needed. We will direct offers of bulk, non perishable food items through to Civil Defence.
If you live locally, non perishable food should be taken to the Salvation Army, 117 Linwood Avenue. They are currently getting food to Welfare Centres.
Offers of perishable food outside of the Christchurch area can not be accepted at this time because there is insufficient cold storage to ensure it is safely stored.
Blankets & Clothing
Blankets and bedding can be sent to your local Red Cross Service Centres. A list of these centres is available on their website: www.redcross.org.nz/servicecentres No clothing has been called for at this stage. Thank you.
We are forwarding all offers of large equipment or bulk supplies directly to the Civil Defence.
For all other offers of support we will forward these to the appropriate coordinators. When local authorities are in a position to manage goods and volunteers they will advise publicly what is needed and where. Please see other useful websites below.
Federated Farmers of New Zealand have allocated sectors of the city to help with the clean up. You can volunteer your labour by heading to the A+P show grounds between 6.30am - 8.00am each day. For more information please ring 0800 FARMING (0800 327 646) or email [email protected]
QuakeHelp website provides listings of offers of assistance to quake victims: http://www.quakehelp.co.nz/offers/
Those volunteers wishing to offer labour can register for the Student Volunteer Army via www.sva.org.nz
Thanks again for your generous offer of support. We do appreciate your concern and willingness to help.
