please check your agreement, is a fixed term or not? if it is a fixed term to a date to terminate the agreement, the new owner of the property must follow the agreement, that means you still could to live in this property and pay the same rent, no change.
if it is not a fixed term agreement, the mimimum writing notice is 42 days, it should be sent from the buyer's lawyer when the property be sold unconditional.
as far as I know, most of agent in chch like the fixed term agreement.
