The 19th National Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival is January 19th -20th 2013. Easy to remember - it's always the third weekend of the new year. Head out to Kumeu in West Auckland via State Highway 16. The Kumeu A & P Shwogrounds is on Access Road (off SH16) and signage will direct drivers to the correct entrance. Traffic does get pretty heavy heading to Kumeu; there is an alternative route, you might want to use it. Check the map for the various access gates and detour. View the show and exhibit map
Show hours are Saturday 7.00am to 6.00pm, and Sunday 8.00am to 5.00pm. Just $15 for adults and under-12s free.
What's Hot Rod?
Hot rods are typically American cars with large engines modified for linear speed. The origin of the term "hot rod" is unclear. One explanation is that the term is a contraction of "hot roadster," meaning a roadster that was modified for speed. Another possible origin includes modifications to or replacement of the camshaft(s), sometimes known as a "stick" or "rod". A camshaft designed to produce more power is sometimes called a "hot stick" or a "hot rod". Roadsters were the cars of choice because they were light.
