不知道大家注意一点没有,那就是这次VW并没有称呼新一代的10速双离合为DSG,只是称呼DCT,难道打算换名字了?

Volkswagen has gained unexpectedly wide coverage for comments by its CEO that the group was developing a dual clutch transmission with ten speeds. Speaking at the 2013 Vienna Motor Symposium, a long-established conference of automobile driveline engineers that takes place every April, Professor Martin Winterkorn linked the development of the new ten-speed DCT with that of a high-performance diesel engine.
According to Winterkorn, Volkswagen is focusing on areas of work which include the development of the high-performance diesel engine delivering 100 kW per liter of displacement and a new ten-speed dual clutch gearbox that reduces fuel consumption.
Although the Volkswagen chief declined to give the conference any further technical details of the developments, VW group insiders say that the high-performance diesel engine achieves its high specific power of 100 kW (134 hp) per liter through the use of 3,000-bar injection pressures and both electric supercharging and exhaust-driven turbocharging. The same insiders hinted that the move to a ten-speed transmission was motivated by the need to provide an exceptionally wide spread of ratios - likely to be more than 10 - in order to combine an easy launch from rest with an economical engine speed for cruising. These could be the characteristics of a highly downsized and downspeeded engine, with the additional ratios required to keep the unit within what could be an unusually narrow power band.
On a broader level, Professor Winterkorn stressed that both gasoline and diesel engines still had considerable development potential, and that among alternative drive systems the first choice in the medium term would be the plug-in hybrid. Plug-in hybrid versions of the Group's Porsche Panamera and Audi A3 are about to go into production, and will be followed by the VW Golf and Passat and Audi A6.
VW's announcement of its ten-speed DCT could be seen as a response to ZF's nine-speed planetary automatic for front-drive applications, a transmission that is likely to quickly become the industry standard. However, Volkswagen will not be alone on the market with a ten-speed transmission. Ford and GM have recently confirmed their program for joint development of nine- and ten-speed units for both front and rear drive, Daimler is working on planetary units with nine ratios or more, and Korea's Hyundai is expected to launch its ten-speed system for luxury rear-drive vehicles within a year.
