A person has been freed from a car at Piha on Auckland's west coast following a two car crash.

The accident happened just after 6.00PM on Piha Road.

Fire Service northern communications spokesman Scott Osmond says six fire engines, police and ambulance are at the scene.

"There is one person that was trapped in a car and was seriously injured.

"That person has now been taken to Piha to be flown out by Westpac (rescue) helicopter."
