New Zealand Standard 4306:2005 Residential Property Inspection
Section 5: The Inspector
5.1 Competencies
To conduct an inspection in accordance with this Standard an inspector shall:
a) Have relevant practical experience in New Zealand building industry including building inspections; and
b) Be a member of a relevant professional or trade organization, or hold relevant technical qualifications; and
c) Be competent to operate any specialized equipment used in the property inspection.
Note-
(1) A prospective purchaser is free to engate an inspector of their choice
(2) Persons acting for the vendor and the building inspector should be independent of one another
(3) It is not the role of the inspector to explain title and ownership matters or deal with matters concerning property values, easements, covenants, restrictions, boundaries and zoning.
(4) An inspectin report should be requested early enough to allow sufficient time for decision making.
5.2 Insurance
The inspector shall at all times maintain adequate insurance, including public risk and professional indemnity.
