The Indian ethnic group is growing faster than the Chinese in New Zealand, and it is creating big business opportunities.
From an Indian pop sensation and exotic dancers from Mumbai, to street parties, and a procession of 30 horses and a guest list of 500 – that was New Zealand's own big fat Indian wedding.
Soni Mudaliar's company organised the lavish nuptials that cost almost $10 million.
It is the sort of business hotels and venues are eyeing up as demand increases.
"The Indian wedding market is huge now because of the huge growth in population and it's still growing," says Ms Mudaliar. "It's good for the business."
Last year, more people came here from India than from anywhere else, and the number of people who identify with the Indian ethnic group has overtaken the Chinese.
The number of people identifying with the Indian ethnic group increased 48.4 percent between 2006 and 2013, compared with an increase of 16.2 percent for the Chinese ethnic group.
Ms Mudalia says traditional Indian weddings used to be held in community centres but that trend has changed.
"I think the hotels these days are more accommodating allowing more Indian menu," she says. "They're allowing us to have the fire ceremony, which is a really intricate part of the ceremony."
The average Indian wedding costs up to $100,000 – that is more than three times the average New Zealanders spend on tying the knot.
Ms Mudalia says it is a numbers game.
"The average Indian wedding guest list, minimum, would be from 300 to 500, so that's big numbers and big dollars."
