《谢罪》由加拿大华裔青年导演熊邦琳历时7年完成,由加拿大国家电影局出品,多伦多亚洲二战史实维护会(简称史维会)协助制作。片中的3位主角包括韩国的吉(Gil)婆婆,中国的曹(Cao)婆婆和菲律宾的艾德拉(Adela)婆婆。3人都曾在约70年前,在所谓的日军“慰安所”内遭遇不幸。

About the movie :
The Apology follows the personal journeys of threeformer “comfort women” who were among the 200,000 girls and young womenkidnapped and forced into military sexual slavery by the Imperial JapaneseArmy during World War II. Some 70 years after their imprisonment inso-called “comfort stations,” the three “grandmothers”– Grandma Gil in SouthKorea, Grandma Cao in China, and Grandma Adela in the Philippines – facetheir twilight years in fading health. After decades of living in silenceand shame about their past, they know that time is running out to give afirst-hand account of the truth and ensure that this horrific chapter ofhistory is not forgotten. Whether they are seeking a formal apology from theJapanese government or summoning the courage to finally share their secret withloved ones, their resolve moves them forward as they seize this last chance to setfuture generations on a course for reconciliation, healing, and justice.

Tiffany Hsiung
Director
TiffanyHsiung is an award-winning filmmaker based in Toronto. Her approach tostorytelling is driven by the relationships she builds with people. Since2009, Hsiung has been documenting the lives of survivors of military sexualslavery during World War II, inflicted by the Japanese Imperial Army, for herfirst feature-length film, The Apology (2015). For the past sixyears, Hsiung has been advocating in communities and universities across NorthAmerica for the grandmothers (survivors known as “comfort women”), as theyfight for justice, by sharing their stories. Her most recent presentation atthe United Nations in New York brought to light one of history’s greatest andunresolved injustices on the world stage for human-rights issues.
