Updates! Which is better ? 100k salary or contractor rate of $720 a day

If you had to make a decision between staying in NZ can earn 100k salary a year (plus $240 a week of living allowance, since the work is in Wellington, so company pay for all travel cost (return flight each week and taxi from/to airport, , accomondation, and the allowance) or going to australia and earn $720 a day on contract (1 year contract, with high possibility of extension), what will you choose ?

Thanks everyone for giving me good advices, I really appreciated. Havnt made a final decision yet, still have 1-2 weeks to think about it before a final decision. Will keep you guys updated as it goes...

A few people dont believe what I said is true and questioned my creditbility, look, I am describing a situation in my original post above, if you read it, I never said this was my situation ! so whether you believe it or not, its not important to the discussion ! I wont spend any more time answering those question about if this is true or not.

I came to nz at a young age, been here for 16 years, I can speak/read fluent chinese, but cant write much, only simple stuff, and its slow. So hopefully you can understand.

I would choose Aussie, as it will open up your career.I am sure you can always come back to NZ and make the same amount money.Another reason to consider going Aussie is that Welly is on the fault line , Man fault line , look at what happen in Chch.

Plus, in IT , it is not uncommon for people earning above 100k , especially people with skills that in high demand.

dont think so, I had a chat with a workmate who used to work in the US for 8 years, and he told me that senior developer gets around 90 to 110k as perm, so he felt that its the same as in nz (not taken into account the currency differences)

I am not quite sure , still well at the bottom of the ladder.I would say depending on the project and technology and the size of the company as well.One year fixed-term contract for a IT project is huge project though.Wondering what sort of technology you are doing?

Theres always more opportunities in OZ. Why not take the offer here in Welly first? If you don't like it then its never too late to take up a contractor role elsewhere? relatively speaking, contracting jobs are easier to find.

i am specialised in insurance industry, so the technology is product specific, so the technology is very simple, just have to follow the vendors way of doing things, i guess its similar to SAP, salesforce.com etc,, very product specific, and there are few jobs out there, since not many major insurance companies in NZ/Aus, having said that, its very much in demand (since not many people have the experience).

so if i go to aus, i'll be doing the same thing, same product, same tech... just for different insurance company

当然是100K的BETTER了，CONTRACTER太不稳定了，随时要冒被撤换的风险。

lets be realistic for a second, 720 a day will not be 200k in a year, I cant work 52 weeks a year !

i think work 44 week a year is more realistic. I did some calculation using online take home pay calculator,,  

if 100k, plus the living allowance, i'll get about 1500 a week take home pay.
if 720 a day in aus, i'll get about 2000 a week take home pay.
