Yes, west area is not as posh as northshore. If I had more money, I might go for shore. But, as long as you feel comfortable about the house and where you are living. It's good enough. For me, west is very convenient. Apart from traffic, I do love it all. Living is like a pair of shoes, comfortable comes before the looking I think.
