The pressure drop will usually happen overnight, so make sure you try to start the engine from dead cold.
If the owner has already warmed the engine, be a bit suspicious and arrange to return next morning for a proper cold start.
If the motor takes lots of cranking before it fires and then runs perfectly, the fuel regulator would be the lead suspect.
Speaking of fuel, some owners found the Tiida’s fuel economy to be greater than they had been expecting.
Our suspicions would be that this is down to the transmission having just four gears when most of the competition had five or six for better economy.
If it’s a manual-gearbox car you’re looking for, be aware that the Tiida in this form can be a little tricky to drive.
The engine seems to want to hang on to its revs for a second or two after the throttle has been released and this, combined with a clutch pedal that had almost no feel to allow you to judge take-up point, can make for jerky progress until you get the hang of the car.
The gearshift quality itself is nothing to write home about, either.
The Tiida has been the subject of a couple of safety recalls. The first one concerned early-build cars which had the potential for their tail-light clusters to suddenly stop working.
The second one was also for early build cars (up to June 2006) and was to check and replace electrical components which could fail for no good reason, allowing the car to stall and be unable to be restarted.
Any examples affected by these recalls should have been seen to by now, but a Nissan dealer can check an inpidual car’s VIN and tell you whether it was affected and/or fixed. |
