About the Business:
Maxion Civil is a West Auckland-based civil contractor that works across New Zealand including subdivisions, commercial site works and landscaping. With an enviable workload of projects in the North Island area, we now require a Civil Quantity Surveyor to join our team.
About the Role:
You will work closely with the project team, subcontractors and key project stakeholders managing all commercial concepts, practices and procedures from project commencement through to completion. You must have a good understanding of commercial contract law, drafting subcontract agreements, assessing payment claims and variations, enforcing adherence to contractual terms and risk management. Keeping yourself up to date with current industry trends as well as new design and construction technology will be important to you and us.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimating for all Civil projects including Tendering, full proposals/packages, budgeting, and subcontractor requirements.
- Reviewing contract terms and conditions to ensure contractual adherence and protection of risk.
- Negotiating favorable outcomes with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Risk management and problem-solving
- Procurement of subcontractors
- Compiling Subcontract agreements
- Assessing payment claims and variations.
- Measuring, estimating and valuing variation claims.
- Establishing rates from first principles
- Compiling and submission of variation claims
- Monthly cost reporting and accurate cost forecasting
- Managing relationships with clients and key project stakeholders

Skills and Attributes:
- You are a self-starter, NZ experienced Civil Quantity Surveyor
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively to achieve financial outcomes for the company
- Solid understanding of NZS3910:2013, conditions of contract
- We seek a strongly numerate person who can do basic trig calculations but importantly can think things through in real terms and use their intuition to identify potential snags in jobs
- Sound knowledge of New Zealand construction techniques and processes
- Experience in tendering construction projects and preparation of quotations
- Ability to review and interpret contract requirements from plans to prepare estimates accurately and effectively
- Negotiation skills to identify and select the competitive supplier and subcontractors’ prices and maintain robust relationships
- You will have knowledge in tendering projects, doing ‘take-offs’, identifying and pricing variations, and an ability to learn our clients’ systems
- Be willing to go the extra mile with a can-do attitude
