Part One: Familiarity with New Zealand. (Medium weighting)

What has motivated you to want to emigrate from China?

Apart from you home country and NZ, have you ever lived in any other country? Did you find the experience challenging?

Why did you decide to migrant to NZ? Why have you decided that now is the right time to migrate?

What difficulties do you think you may have in settling in NZ?

Why do you think you have the ability to settle into NZ successfully?

What about your partner and Children, can they settle well in NZ? Why or why not?

Part Two: Employment prospects. (High weighting)

As per your understanding, what occupations in relation to your qualifications and/or work experience are deemed to be skilled under the skilled migrant category policy?

Have you ever worked in those occupations overseas or in NZ? Could you please give more details?

What do you know about the employments opportunities for those occupations in NZ? What research have you done to find out employment prospects in those areas?

Out of those occupations, which one will you be actively pursuing in NZ?

I note that more than 2 years have lapsed since you finished your studies in NZ. Can you outline you efforts of the last two years in getting into skilled employment? E.g. can you name a few positions that you have applied or prospective employers that you have contacted?

Have you accumulated any post-qualification work experience that is relevant to a skilled occupation?

Have you been actively applying for jobs in relation to skilled occupations in the last 6 months? Can you show me evidence for your effort? Were you interviewed or shortlisted for any of those positions?

If the applicant has given you a position as example can you tell me the qualification and / or work experience requirements for that position? Do you meet the requirements? If there is a gap between your qualification/work experience and the requirements of the job, are there any other elements in your circumstance that could convince the employer to offer the job to you?

As you may be aware we are experiencing recession in many industries. Is your industry affected by the recession? Are you aware of any changes in the labour market demand in that area? How does it affect you ability to redily obtain skilled employment?

Where in NZ do you intend to look for work? Why this particular area?

What barriers do you think you may encounter in getting skilled employment in New Zealand?

If you were not successful in finding skilled employment, what would you do?

Part Three Lingages and support (low weighting)

Do you have any family or friends in NZ? How often do you see them? What kind of support have you been receiving from them? Do you have any other strong support networks in NZ?
