Red Cross to give second round of Winter Assistance The New Zealand Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Commission have approved more help with electricity bills for all households that received its 2012 Winter Assistance Grant. Around 6000 households will receive a second payment of $400 which will be paid directly to their power company. The previous grant was $100 for each of the four months of June, July, August and September. The Winter Assistance Grant closed on October 1. It was available to all households with earthquake damage or those who had to move to colder, damper, harder to heat accommodation.
Other Grants still available to apply for: Disability Support Grant To assist people with disabilities, and their carers, who are having difficulties meeting disability-related needs because of the effect of the earthquakes upon services and infrastructure. - [backcolor=rgba(255, 255, 255, 0)]$750 per person with a disability
Storage Grant
To assist earthquake-affected homeowners and renters who have had to vacate their property and pay for storage for their belongings anytime since 4 September 2010 and have exhausted other financial assistance to pay for storage. - [backcolor=rgba(255, 255, 255, 0)]up to $1000 per household
Bereavement Grant
This application is available for people who have lost an immediate family member in the earthquake of February 2011. - [backcolor=rgba(255, 255, 255, 0)]Two payments of $10,000 for the immediate family of confirmed deceased.
Targeted Moving Assistance (S124) Grant
This application is available for households whose properties have been issued with a Section 124 Building Act Notice by Christchurch City Council. - [backcolor=rgba(255, 255, 255, 0)]$1,000 per household.
Enhanced Water Filter Grant
This application is available to assist those people whose domestic water supply comes from either a well or a bore and whose water quality was affected by the earthquake, to the point where they now require an enhanced water filter, in order to make their water potable. - [backcolor=rgba(255, 255, 255, 0)]Up to $5,000 which shall include purchase, installation and testing of the Enhanced Water Filter.
Independent Advice Grant
To assist vulnerable homeowners with obtaining assistance on what to do with their earthquake damaged property. - [backcolor=rgba(255, 255, 255, 0)]Up to $750 per household
NB Retrospective applications are now accepted for this grant. Please present receipts with your application form. The Commission has also approved more help for people with storage bills.
