Water rates
The chch Council charges for water in the rates instalment notice. This is calculated by multiplying the capital value of the property by an amount determined yearly in the annual plan.
Domestic consumers pay the amount on the rates bill only . The Council does not charge domestic users for actual usage, but does monitor excessive use.
Commercial, Industrial users (including schools and churches) and residential properties with three or more units (owned by one person) pay for water in their rates and are invoiced for any excess water usage above the calculated allowance for the reading period.
Details of commercial charges are available from the Water Billing Section of the Financial Services Unit. When a property, that is subject to excess water charges, is sold i.e. a commercial or industrial property, a final reading of the water meter must be made. Contact the Rates Section to arrange this.
Residential Properties are not subject to excess charges at present and do not require a final water meter reading.
Daily water allowances:
These are calculated by using a formula and taking into account variables like the capital value of the property, the cost to supply water to the property per cubic meter and the number of days since the previous reading.
All residential properties within the serviced area are charged in their rates for water. If you have an empty section, these facilities are available and you therefore have to pay the separate rates for water. If you are not connected to the water supply you will be charged a half water rate. |
