About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Import Operator to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in international freight forwarding, excellent operational skills, and the ability to communicate fluently in both English and Mandarin. This role requires hands-on experience with CargoWise and a solid understanding of New Zealand import processes.
Key Responsibilities Manage end-to-end import operations Air, LCL, FCL, ensuring smooth and timely cargo movement from overseas origins to final delivery. Liaise regularly with overseas offices, agents, and service providers to maintain accurate shipment status and ensure deadlines are met. Prepare and process all import documentation accurately, ensuring full compliance with legal, customs, and company requirements. Maintain effective communication with internal teams and external partners to ensure operational efficiency. Negotiate with suppliers and service providers to achieve the best outcomes while meeting time-sensitive requirements (e.g., cut-offs, special handling). Provide professional and solution-oriented customer service to clients, promptly addressing inquiries or issues. Report to the Import Manager on a regular basis, providing updates on client/supplier feedback, operational workload, and process improvements. Work proactively with a positive “can-do” attitude and commercial awareness.
Key Requirements (Must-Have) Minimum 2 years of experience working in an import team within a freight forwarding company in New Zealand. Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience using CargoWise for import operations. Fluent in Mandarin (both written and spoken) — essential due to the company’s strong business focus on the Chinese market. Strong understanding of international shipping documentation, incoterms, and import regulations. Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
