Transpower says that some areas of Auckland will currently be experiencing a power outage due to a fire under two of its transmission lines in the Waikato region.
The fire, on private property, has caused a fault on two of the transmission lines that feed the Auckland area. Transpower contractors are currently on site and are working to restore the two lines to service.
Chief Executive Patrick Strange said that a number of other factors, in addition to the fire, has resulted in Transpower's System Operator asking its customers to shed load.
"There is currently not enough generation to feed the Auckland region. In addition to initial issue of the fire which has has resulted in two of our main transmission lines being out of service, the Otahuhu power station is also out for maintenance, one of our other transmission lines is out for maintenance (but is currently being put back into service) and there is also some reports of lightening in the area."
"We are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issues on Transpower's network and hope to have all power restored shortly," he said. |
