About the Dannemora Community
Dannemora is a residential suburb east of the City with easy access to the eastern beaches. The area enjoys modern highway connections to both Manukau City (and through to Auckland International Airport) and to the Auckland CBD via both the South Eastern Arterial and the new Highbrook connection to the Southern Motorway.
The majority of the homes are less than 10years old and tend to be large with four or more bedrooms, making them popular with families. Recently however, blocks of apartments and walk-up residential developments have been constructed close to the Botany Town Centre, creating very desirable 2 and 3 bedroom properties which appeal to all age groups.
There are some excellent local schools including popular state of the art Botany Downs Secondary College, and the new Mission Heights Primary School and Junior College which opened in February 2009. These schools, including the private schools such as Santa Maria College and Tyndale Park Christian School are well served with public transport. In addition. access to some of Auckland's top private schools is also made easy by good public transport links.
A community spirit has developed quickly in the area as Dannemora offers families a multitude of recreational facilities such as an ice rink and a Ten Pin Bowling Alley, the Berkley Cinema Complex and a Golf Driving Range. Within a 15 - 20 minute drive, families can also enjoy the areas popular beaches of Bucklands Beach, Eastern Beach, Mellons Bay, Howick Beach and Cockle Bay plus the areas regional parks such as Lloyd Ellsmore complete with indoor swimming pool.
Eating
The area is festooned with many and varied delicious restaurants, cafes and bars to suit every taste due to the diverse ethnic cultures who have added spice to the area by settling in and around Dannemora and opening businesses there. Namely, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Indian, Japanese, South African, Italian and of course the New Zealander's love of coffee is well satisfied by many cafes dotted around the area. The Botany Town Centre alone is host to nearly 20 cafes, bars and restaurants. The best way to find directions is to go to www.maps.google.co.nz
Shopping
In addition to neighbourhood shopping centres, the Botany Town Centre is one of New Zealand's largest retail developments. A unique shopping experience in itself with over 160 stores, covering lifestyle, homeware, clothing, footwear and groceries, cafes and restaurants to suit every taste. Access to the centre is available from Ti Iriangi Drive, Ti Rakau Drive and Chapel Road.
Prior to development, the site was commercial farmland, all but devoid of trees. The centre developers undertook a very extensive planting project with over 700 native trees and shrubs being planted to beautify the centre.
Transport
Dannemora is located approximately 19 kilometres from the Auckland CBD, and is a short 20-30 minute drive from Auckland International Airport. There are regular bus services to the Botany Town Centre including the number 68 bus from the Britomart Station in downtown Auckland.
