闺女8岁来新西兰,在国内英语是她最不喜欢的科目。来这边后除了小学正常上课、偶尔带回家一本英文图画书读读、以及学校安排的每天半小时的ESOL课程,再没有接受额外的英文辅导。主要是不想给她太大压力,让她自己慢慢树立英文听说读写的信心。口语最初只会讲一两个单词,1年后练就了满嘴的kiwi口音;写作最初是央求我帮她的话翻译成英语,后来变成一件事自己洋洋洒洒写上3、4页。虽然写的东西很口语化,而且很多单词拼写有误,但我们依然为她能与老师同学正常交流、能跟上学校正常教学进度而欣慰不已。
转眼闺女上初中已经4周了,第二周老师对全班进行了英文词汇考核,根据每个同学掌握的词汇量多少进行分级,闺女在她班里才属于level 4,她说当地学生大部分是level 8。自第三周起,老师在教室墙上贴出了每个level近百个单词的列表,要求每个学生每周从这个list里抄下自己对应那个level的10个单词,一周内会读会拼,每个周五让他们结对彼此互相考察。闺女自是认真学习,每天还坚持让我们听写她。我问过他们老师,这些list在哪里能找到,老师解释说是自己根据学生常用词汇多年整理下来的,每周让孩子至少记10个,达到日积月累的效果。
下面就列出孩子近几周学习的单词,分享给需要的家长:

上周开了家长会,和老师进行沟通后,在单词拼写方面,相应list里孩子早已掌握的单词就不用再特意抄下来了,调整为孩子自行从相应list里筛选陌生单词来记忆,这样她就进入下一个level的单词学习了。
