) E# O2 K. Y6 t3 {" t D( M- J/ K' cA new approach to deciding dog access to parks and beaches will also start in 2013. Dog access3 u3 W2 A, P5 a% M7 G! b, q o
decisions will be made by local boards for local parks and beaches, and by the Parks, Recreation p ~+ f: P- t& a0 Q) f8 T0 L
and Heritage Forum for parks and beaches of regional significance. Submissions requesting
% E3 N$ B/ m7 Hchanges to dog access rules will be referred to local boards and the forum to consider using the
" u: U1 _; g$ g8 U0 znew decision-making principles, criteria and guidance.
& x8 B- J! S$ A% D& dOne of the new criteria – raised by the majority of submissions - are standard times and seasons to% d* j5 x4 I- K' g/ R
be used wherever a time and season dog access rule is used on a beach. The decision was to7 X6 h$ `; W: W! {8 g1 z
adopt a standard summer beach time and season of 10am and 5pm, Labour Weekend to 1 March," ^4 O; H! n# N

However, the new standard summer time and season will not be in effect until the forum and3 U3 a C: C( G
local boards have reviewed all beach dog access rules in each area. The review will identify the4 h2 d( R% M, x- D3 r$ Y7 o, ]
most appropriate mix of dog access rules for our beaches. This might mean that the new summer1 |4 @3 n- w+ m% ~; F5 q
times and season will apply to some beaches, while for other beaches dogs may be allowed under2 o( K+ ^, L- X/ j! \+ @1 { |* ~1 D
