Region-wide dog access rules that include:

b3 Z- E* s0 f/ \ @9 T6 ?decisions will be made by local boards for local parks and beaches, and by the Parks, Recreation$ K6 @5 O( J1 G# p
and Heritage Forum for parks and beaches of regional significance. Submissions requesting
" e9 ^1 y7 k; Y' B, Gchanges to dog access rules will be referred to local boards and the forum to consider using the4 S0 v: ^- J& L
new decision-making principles, criteria and guidance.
- G; w2 N6 I! M6 l! ?One of the new criteria – raised by the majority of submissions - are standard times and seasons to5 C' l1 E6 j. C. D1 r
be used wherever a time and season dog access rule is used on a beach. The decision was to2 s0 v6 s' P- R. @# d
adopt a standard summer beach time and season of 10am and 5pm, Labour Weekend to 1 March,9 g5 p# Y; T* x7 p# O V
and to exempt its application on Hauraki Gulf islands (including Waiheke Island and Great Barrier

U6 `/ F% \5 b: j8 [8 sHowever, the new standard summer time and season will not be in effect until the forum and4 L5 E, f2 s; ?( K
local boards have reviewed all beach dog access rules in each area. The review will identify the3 Y! U0 a5 ^& B. P# v1 S
most appropriate mix of dog access rules for our beaches. This might mean that the new summer
5 p# ^' b* ^/ L* T( otimes and season will apply to some beaches, while for other beaches dogs may be allowed under3 j; y* n& \$ |
control off a leash at all times. The need to carry out this review and work out the best way to0 | U" G/ T1 E/ f- t
manage the safe interaction between people and dogs means that until those decisions are made+ p5 `: B& Q8 b: p' x& v) v$ E- h5 l
the current dog access rules (which use a mixture of times and dates across Auckland) will+ a' E' j9 b2 F n; B6 p4 T! @" b

conducted by the relevant delegated authority before a final decision is made. |
